Hiss and Her Song

Hiss:

Do you love me, my pretty?
You say that you do.
But can you love someone, my pretty,
Who cannot be true?

Can you trust me, my darling
Knowing I will lie?
Will you trust me, my darling?
A forked tongue have I.

Would you lie by me, lover?
My heart’s not in my chest.
Could you lie by me, lover,
Next to cold blood and rest?

Would you kiss me despite tasting venom, my sweet?
Would you kiss me knowing I have fangs for teeth.

And do you still think I’m the one?
You know I cannot run,
But would it surprise you one day,
If I quietly just slithered away?
